DEATH OF A LADIES MAN (Leonard Cohen)

korean release album cover

One of my favorite songs. This whole record is the best. it was produced by Phil Spector, who barred Cohen from the studio after vocals were put down so he could finish and mix it himself.   Rolling Stone called the record "Leonard Cohen's doo-wop nightmare".

Incredible lyrics:

"I'll never see a face like yours in years of men to come
I'll never see such arms again in wrestling or in love."

She beckoned to the sentry of his high religious mood
She said, "I'll make a place between my legs,
I'll show you solitude." (seducing a priest)

She moved her body hard against a sharpened metal spoon
She stopped the bloody rituals of passage to the moon.

She took his tavern parliament, his cap, his cocky dance,
She mocked his female fashions and his working-class moustache.

So the great affair is over but whoever would have guessed
It would leave us all so vacant and so deeply unimpressed
It's like our visit to the moon or to that other star
I guess you go for nothing if you really want to go that far.

shorter karaoke version... which is still over 7 minutes long :)

and the original

I realize this post is laid out pretty much exactly the same as my last one. i recorded another cover and used it to make a karaoke track... something original coming soon?  maybe.. hope so

TEMPORARY SECRETARY (Paul McCartney)

In retrospect, the record is muddled and confused, nowhere more so than on the frazzled sequencing of "Temporary Secretary," where McCartney spits out ridiculous lyrics with a self-consciously atonal melody over gurgling synths. Things rarely get worse than that....-Stephen Thomas Erlewine [allmusic review of Paul McCartney II]

That being said, here is my cover version of Paul McCartney's genius, arpeggiated, synthperimental 1980 non-hit, Temporary Secretary
  TEMPORARY SECRETARY - TV Coahran

Copied and pasted the synth intro and re-pasted for the entirety of the song so i could create a karaoke CDG video file for it. when that was done i figured it wouldn't take much more time to record more vocal and percussion tracks and make my own full version. it actually took many more hours to finish cuz i couldnt stop messing with it. fun. here's the karaoke version:

and sir paul's original from his II album. lots of weirdness and experimenting throughout the record. just found it on vinyl. after 20 years of writing pop hit-gold i think he's allowed to dick around a bit:
